What is the ABS system and why is it so important for your safety?
The ABS (Antilock Braking System) is one of the greatest advances in automotive safety. It prevents the wheels from locking during hard braking, keeping the vehicle stable.
How the anti-lock braking system works
The ABS uses sensors to detect when a wheel is about to lock.
The ABS ECU automatically regulates the braking pressure in milliseconds, preventing skidding and maintaining directional control.
Advantages over traditional brakes
-
Greater vehicle control in emergency braking.
-
Shorter braking distance on slippery surfaces.
-
Improves stability and traction.
Main components
-
Hydraulic module: regulates the braking pressure.
-
Wheel speed sensors.
-
ABS ECU, which processes the information and orders the correction.
What happens if the ABS stops working?
The car will still brake, but without the assistance of the ABS:
-
Greater risk of locking.
-
Loss of control on bends or in the wet.
-
ABS warning light on.
At Ecumotorstock we repair Bosch, ATE and Delphi ABS ECUs with a warranty and a free prior diagnosis.
Basic maintenance to avoid faults
-
Do not ignore the ABS warning light.
-
Keep the connectors clean.
-
Change the brake fluid every 2 years.
