¿Por qué mi coche no arranca aunque la batería está bien?

Why won't my car start even though the battery is fine?

A car that won't start despite having a good battery is one of the most frustrating faults. Often the problem is not the battery or the starter motor, but an electronic fault that blocks the system.

Electronic faults that prevent starting

The most common causes include:

  • Fault in the ECU (engine control unit), which does not activate the injection or ignition.

  • Immobiliser locked, which does not recognise the key.

  • Damaged relays or fuses in the starting circuit.

  • Earth or connection problems in the vehicle's electrical system.

At Ecumotorstock, we diagnose this type of fault with advanced equipment that can check whether the ECU is locked or whether the fault comes from another module.

How to rule out mechanical problems

Before thinking about the electronics, make sure you:

  • Listen to check whether the starter motor turns.

  • Check that there is enough fuel and pressure in the circuit.

  • Check that there are no blown fuses.

If all of this is fine and the car still won't start, the cause is almost always electronic or software-related.

How does the ECU take part in starting the engine?

The ECU coordinates starting by sending the ignition signal, activating the injectors and controlling the immobiliser. If it detects a fault, it blocks the process to prevent greater damage.
A damaged ECU, one that is out of sync or has no communication with the BSI or BCM, can completely prevent starting.

Tips for diagnosing before calling a tow truck

  1. Do an OBD read to see whether there is communication with the ECU.

  2. Check the terminals and main earth points.

  3. Reset the system by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes (always with caution).

  4. If it still won't start, do not force the start: you could make the fault worse

At Ecumotorstock, we repair and clone ECUs with full warranty, even when the car shows no signs of life.
