What is the airbag ECU (SRS) and why can it fail?

The SRS ECU (Supplemental Restraint System) controls the critical safety
features in your car:

  • Front and side airbags
  • Seat belt pretensioners
  • Impact sensors
  • Occupant detection system

When a collision occurs, the ECU records an impact log (crash data) that locks the system for safety. It can also fail because of:

🔌 Electrical surges
🔧 Incorrect programming after maintenance
💥 Accidental sensor activation
💣 Excess moisture or internal deterioration

  • Red airbag light on in the instrument cluster
  • Airbags and pretensioners deactivated
  • DTC error codes such as B1000, U0151, B0051, etc.
  • Loss of passive safety functions
  • Failing the Spanish roadworthiness test (ITV) if the SRS system is not operational
