¿Qué es el BCM de un coche y para qué sirve?

What is a car BCM and what is it for?

The BCM (Body Control Module) is the comfort brain of the car.

It manages functions such as lights, electric windows, windscreen wipers, central locking and many more.

Main function of the Body Control Module

It receives signals from switches, sensors and controls, and passes them on to the rest of the systems.
It is the module that connects the cabin electronics with the vehicle network.

Systems it controls

  • Exterior and interior lights.

  • Central locking.

  • Alarm and anti-theft.

  • Electric windows and mirrors.

  • CAN communication with the ECU and the BSI

Feature BCM BSI
Origin Used in brands such as VW, Ford, Opel Specific to PSA (Peugeot, Citroën)
Location Cabin or engine bay Under the dashboard
Function Comfort and control module Service unit and immobiliser

What happens if the BCM fails?

  • Lights, windows or locking fail.

  • The remote control does not respond.

  • Sometimes, it blocks starting if it loses communication with the ECU.

At Ecumotorstock we diagnose faulty BCMs, clone the information and reprogram them so they work again without having to replace the whole system.

How is a faulty BCM diagnosed?

  1. OBD reading and CAN communication check.

  2. Verification of power supply and earth.

  3. Check of the internal software using the Flex cloner.
