What is an ECU or Control Unit?

First of all, we believe it is necessary to provide a brief definition of what an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is. The control unit is responsible for managing and supervising the vehicle's functions.

To put it simply, if our cars were people: the engine would be the heart, and the control unit would be the brain. There are several types of control units:

• Engine Control Unit: Developed as an improvement over injection pumps, it allows for more rigorous control of fuel injection, reducing consumption and improving performance. Currently, it also manages idle speed and RPMs. Depending on the car model, it may also handle other functions such as temperature control or door locks.

• Comfort Control Unit: Manages door locking/unlocking, climate control, power windows, and lighting.

These two types are the most common in most cars. However, it should be noted that some manufacturers prefer to split these functions into up to six different control units, varying both the number of units used and the specific tasks assigned to each.

How to tell if your car's ECU is failing?

Several symptoms can help identify a fault in the unit. Here are the 6 most common signs of a control unit failure:

1. The engine won't start, has difficulty starting, or stalls after a few seconds.

2. The windshield wipers don't start or operate erratically.

How our rental service works

When requesting a rental, the customer must pay the cost of the unit as a security deposit. The unit is delivered to the specified address on the next business day. The customer then has 3 business days to test the car. Afterward, they can choose to keep the unit (if it solved the problem) or return it. If returned, the deposit is refunded, minus the 65-euro rental fee.
